Thomas Dahl
Presentation
Thomas Dahl's oeuvre revolves mainly around long and complex material processes that often have a linguistic and conceptual side. Central to his creative process is a rigorous method that he designs for each process. His works are often cycles with openings to philosophical and psychological aspects, in which chance and sudden impulses sometimes break his established rules.
In Thomas Dahl's performance is the language and its expressions the material under investigation. Here are questions of linguistic hierarchies and language as instrument of force in focus, but also a play on prejudices and languages charge.
Since 2007, Thomas Dahl worked with performance art in the form of a series of speeches held in the public space. He offers people of different backgrounds to write a speech in their language about something they consider important. Then he learns the speeches by heart, and performs them in public places.
